In just over a year, the Turmel brothers of T2 Design have been making waves and stacking up awards. Fresh back from the American Wrap Masters in Indianapolis, they’re already gearing up to hit the competition floor again next year!
The goal of this first appearance was to put Hans Turmel’s talent to the test against the world’s top wrap installers. This high-stakes competition is more than just a challenge — it’s the official gateway to the elite World Championship, one of the most prestigious and fiercely competitive events in the industry.
“Let’s just say we were aiming to impress,” said the installer.

It was Hans who stepped into the spotlight, impressing the judges with his precision and skill in this highly technical installation competition. His brother, Éric Turmel, was right there with him — offering unwavering support and capturing the journey of the only Canadian installer in the event. A true source of local pride, T2 Design is the only company in the Suroît region with a fully certified installer on its team — with a drive and talent that’s putting Suroît on the international map.

Facing International Rivals
Curious about the competition, the Turmel brothers researched the field:“Out of 24 participants, 17 were Americans, 3 Japanese, 2 Dutch, 1 Brazilian, and Hans was the sole Canadian,” they revealed. “The pressure was definitely on!”
It was at this point that the duo fully appreciated the caliber of the international competition. Furthermore, most of the participants were experienced in this type of event.

Competition Overview
Round #1 (Thursday, June 2, 2016):
During the first round, competitors had 30 minutes to install vinyl on two Chevrolet Sonic doors, including handles. Despite the tight timeframe, Hans delivered a nearly flawless wrap on one door, earning his place among the 16 finalists moving forward.

Round #2 (Friday Morning, June 3, 2016):
In the second round, the 16 participants had just 30 minutes to complete a vehicle wrap installation on two doors, the door handle, and the front fender. “We got more work but no extra time,” Hans laughed.
Competitors were reminded that judges prioritized quality over speed. With limited time, participants had to balance speed and precision carefully—finishing quickly but with errors wouldn’t score better than partial completion done flawlessly.
At this stage, Hans managed to wrap only the two doors, skipping the front fender. “You really had to be fast!” he exclaimed. As the competition progressed, completing the entire installation became crucial to accumulate enough points to move forward. Once again, Hans’s superior workmanship outweighed speed, earning him a spot in the third round, where only eight participants remained.

Round #3 (Friday Afternoon, June 3, 2016):
The top eight installers had 40 minutes to complete a vehicle wrap on one side, including two doors, the door handle, rear fender, rocker panel, and roof trim.
Hans started strong but, due to the tight time limit, he couldn’t finish all the necessary cuts to complete the installation, resulting in lost points. Although his work quality remained high, it wasn’t enough to advance to the next stage.
Hans’s journey ended in the third round, placing him between 5th and 8th among the best installers in America. “For a first competition, that’s very honorable!” he concluded.

Round #4 – Semi-Finals (Saturday Morning, June 4, 2016):
Only four competitors earned the coveted spot in the semi-finals — a milestone that T2 Design’s co-owners were eager to reach on their quest for the World Championship. Watching this intense stage unfold, they did so with excitement and a lot less stress.

Round #5 – Final (Saturday Afternoon, June 4, 2016):
The final showdown crowned the best installer in America, and the judges couldn’t have been more thrilled to welcome a fresh, top-tier talent like Hans. Blown away by the quality and precision of his work, they’re already looking forward to seeing him back in the competition next year!

The goal of every participant in this kind of event is to make it to the podium and prove they are the best. “We were lucky to be there, and we made the most of it,” Hans happily shares. “We met some incredible people who share our passion. We’re coming away from this competition knowing we gave it our all, and we’re proud of that.”
